Every Georgia fan has their eyes on the running back room heading into Saturday's game against Auburn after Nate Frazier and Chauncey Bowens both missed last weekend's game against Alabama. Even if Georgia's backup running backs played well against the Tide it is still important for Frazier and Bowens to get healthy, unfortunately Bowens might not be able to play for a long time.

Bowens was hurt on the final play of the first half against Vanderbilt two weeks ago. He was ruled out early last week leading into the Alabama game, and he was just ruled out for Saturday's rivalry game agaisnt Auburn. There is no timetable for his return either so it sounds like he could be out for quite awhile still.

Dwight Phillips emerged right when Georgia needed him most

Bowens was Georgia's No. 2 running back heading into this season, and through the first four games of the year he lived up to expectations. He only has 124 yards so far this year, but he found his role in short yardage situations in the red zone as he already had six touchdowns.

Bowens may not be back for a long time if at all this season, so that means Georgia will have to rely on their depth going forward. The good news for UGA is that their backup running backs excelled against Alabama last weekend.

Dwight Phillips was the star who emerged against the Tide as he totaled 120 yards on 17 carries. He proved he can be relied on going forward now that Bowens is out for a significant amount of time, but he can’t do it on his own.

Georgia desperately needs Nate Frazier back

Bo Walker shined against Alabama as well, but what Georgia needs most is for Nate Frazier to come back.

Frazier is Georgia’s top option at running back, but he has been injured for the last three games. His abscence during the Alabama game was shocking since he wasn’t on the injury report leading into the game, but he ultimately wasn’t able to play and was seen visibly upset during pregame when that decision was made.

So far this season Frazier has 211 yards and five touchdowns on just 26 carries. It’s hard to be more efficient than that, so it’s clear that Georgia would be much better off with him in the lineup.

Frazier’s status remains unclear heading into the Auburn game this weekend. It would be nice if he were able to play, but Georgia probably doesn’t need him to beat their rival.

After the Auburn game Georgia has their bye week which will be critical for Frazier and everyone else to get healthy before their final five regular season games and potentially the SEC Championship game.

If Georgia wants to win a national championship they probably need Frazier or Bowens in the lineup. Since Bowens’ future is up in the air it may be up to Frazier to get healthy and stay healthy so Georgia can reach their peak this season.
