Georgia’s recruitment of five-star linebacker Tyler Atkinson is really heating up. Atkinson took official visits to Clemson and Oregon to start the month of June before finally taking his official visit to Georgia this past weekend.

Multiple reports indicated that Georgia is the clear leader for Atkinson after he visited Athens, with one expert claiming it would be a “surprise” if he committed to anyone other than Georgia.

But in a recruitment of this magnitude, anything is possible. That is especially the case because Atkinson is still taking official visits even after his trip to Athens.

And according to On3, Texas will be the next school to host Atkinson on an official visit this weekend.

Tyler Atkinson makes discouraging visit announcement

This announcement from Atkinson is a little surprising because this is one of the first times Texas has been named as a serious contender in this recruitment. So the fact that the Longhorns are getting more involved so late in his recruitment is a cause for concern because of the money they will be willing to throw at Atkinson.

Regardless, Georgia fans should still be confident in this recruitment. It was reported that last weekend was the 15th time Atkinson visited Georgia during his recruitment, so that shows how much he loves UGA. On top of that, it will be hard for any team to surpass Georgia after an insider shared that they would be shocked to see Georgia lose this recruitment.

This weekend is the last set of visits before a recruiting dead period begins, so this could be the last hurdle Georgia needs to jump. So if the Bulldogs remain the clear favorite even after Atkinson’s visit to Texas, there’s a shot this recruitment could end pretty quickly. And in all likelihood that would mean Georgia would come out on top and land the No. 1 linebacker in the country.
