Georgia football is flying into the College Football Playoff as one of the hottest teams in the country. The Bulldogs just wrapped up a near perfect season that saw them finish 12-1 with a dominant victory over Alabama in the SEC Championship game.
Their reward for such a great season is a favorable path in the upcoming College Football Playoff, but the committee clearly didn’t reward them enough.
Georgia unfairly given No. 3 seed in College Football Playoff
Georgia’s victory over Alabama earned them the No. 3 seed in the final College Football Playoff rankings. Ohio State’s loss to Indiana apparently didn’t matter as the committee only moved the Buckeyes down one spot to No. 2.
It’s impossible to explain why the committe felt Ohio State deserved to be seeded higher than Georgia. The Bulldogs just won the SEC in dominant fashion while the Buckeyes lost to Indiana in the Big Ten Championship game. Georgia also played a much more difficult schedule this year that included wins over Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas and Alabama in the SEC Championship game. Ohio State on the other hand only has one meaningful win against Texas in their season opener.
Speaking of Texas, the Buckeyes barely scrapped by with a 14-7 win. Georgia on the other hand dominated the Longhorns 35-10. That major discrepancy should have been enough to give Georgia the better seed, but the committee somehow didn’t agree.
Georgia’s path in 2025 College Football Playoff
Georgia has earned a first round bye in the playoff this season thanks to earning the No. 3 seed. The Bulldogs first matchup will be in the quarterfinals against the winner of the first round matchup between No. 6 Ole Miss and No. 11 Tulane.
If Georgia is able to win that game they could potentially face No. 2 Ohio State in the semifinals. The Buckeyes however are not guaranteed to make it that far after their poor performance in the Big Ten Championship game, so Georgia could also face No. 7 Texas A&M or No. 10 Miami.
Georgia however learned last year that nothing is guaranteed in the playoff. They also rarned a first round bye but lost their first game of the playoff to Notre Dame. So the Bulldogs are going to have to be ready for a fight regardless of who they get matched up with throughout the playoff.
