Saturday was supposed to be a big test for Georgia against Ole Miss. It was the perfect storm for the Rebels as they were the home team playing under the lights at night against a team in Georgia they’ve beat two of the last three times they played.
This game ended up being the furthest thing from a tough matchup though as Georgia got off to a huge lead early in the game and cruised all night long to a 42-7 victory.
Georgia vs Ole Miss was never a contest
Ole Miss got the football first to start this game. Based on how great their offense has been it wouldn’t have been surprising to see them score right away. Instead they went three and out and Georgia’s offense marched down the field in seven plays to score a touchdown.
Instead of bouncing back Ole Miss punted their next drive after picking up just one first down. Georgia responded with another touchdown. The Rebels on their third drive found some success, but their drive ended with a missed field goal. Georgia then marched down the field again and scored another touchdown.
That made the game 21-0 early in the second quarter. The game technically was far from over at that point, but it certainly felt like it was over. The Ole Miss crowd was nonexistent, and Rebels quarterback Trinidad Chambliss looked like he had no clue what was going on.
Georgia dominated Ole Miss in every facet of the game from the opening kickoff, and they showed what their true potential is this season.
Georgia is the national championship front runner
Heading into this weekend Georgia was already the betting favorite to win the national championship. After blowing No. 10 Ole Miss out on the road they should become an even larger favorite.
Ole Miss had the longest active home winning streak in the country before Saturday night. They also have Chambliss who torched Georgia twice last season, but none of that mattered. The Rebels looked like a high school team compared to Georgia, but in reality they are one of the best teams in the SEC. That’s how good this Georgia team is.
Vegas will update their odds to win a national championship on Sunday, but Georgia will certainly be the favorite. In fact, since No. 1 Miami lost to Notre Dame this weekend there’s a chance the team with the second-best odds won’t even be close.
Georgia still has plenty of work to do this season, but it’s clear that they are plenty good enough to win a national championship.
