Georgia football is still eagerly awaiting their first transfer portal commitment of the year, and while it may feel like it’s time to panic there are still plenty of reasons to be patient.
For starters, there will still be a lot more players who will enter the portal this offseason. Many players will play in their team’s bowl game or College Football Playoff run before they decide to enter the portal. So Kirby Smart and his staff still have plenty more recruits they’ll be able to target in the future.
But even though there will still be more players to recruit in the near future, Smart and his staff have stayed busy working on recruits currently in the portal. This is especially true at wide receiver, where Georgia was just named a team to look out for in the recruitment for the No. 2 receiver in the portal.
So while Smart and his staff pursue that target, they are continuing to work on other players as well, including a talented wide receiver from UCLA.
UCLA wide receiver J. Michael Sturdivant
According to Graham Coffey with Dawgs Central, standout UCLA transfer wide receiver J. Michael Sturdivant will be visiting Georgia this Friday.
Sturdivant just finished his second season with UCLA where he finished with 22 receptions for 315 yards and two touchdowns. These stats were accumulated in just seven games played, so overall it was a very solid season for Sturdivant.
While this isn’t a recruitment that Georgia absolutely needs to win, the fact that their biggest competition is Florida makes it feel like it is. Georgia fans want to beat the Gators any chance they get, so earning a commitment from Sturdivant after he already visited Florida would feel really good.
Time will tell if that ends up happening, but we should find out a lot more information about this recruitment once his visit this weekend is complete.
