While the college football world has all of their attention on the 2026 recruiting class, Kirby Smart also has his eyes set on the 2027 class as well. And one recruit that has begun standing out to Georgia is five-star EDGE Zyron Forstall.

According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Forstall is the No. 3 overall player in the 2027 recruiting class. He also is the No. 2 EDGE in his class and the No. 1 player from his home state of Louisiana.

Georgia recently extended a scholarship offer to Forstall, and according to Rivals Recruiting Director Adam Gorney, this was an offer he has been waiting for and is very excited about.

"Add Georgia to that list of top contenders as he’s “been waiting for the longest” to get that offer and he’s “beyond excited” to have the Bulldogs under consideration now," Gorney shared via uga.rivals.com.

Georgia has serious work to do to surpass LSU for 5-star EDGE

While this quote shows that Georgia will have a good shot at winning this recruitment, it was what Gorney shared next that shows they still trail an SEC rival.

"In the end, it could be tough to beat LSU for the high four-star defensive end from New Orleans (La.) Jesuit but USC has made great in-roads there along with numerous SEC teams."

The good news for Georgia is that there is still a year and a half remaining in the recruiting cycle for the 2027 class, so that gives Smart and his staff plenty of time to catch up to LSU. But that is going to be extremely difficult to do since Forstall is from Louisiana.

But if Georgia fans are looking for a reason to cheer against LSU this season, a bad year for the Tigers could result in head coach Brian Kelly getting fired. And if that happens, Georgia's chances in this recruitment would drastically increase.
