One of the more veteran Georgia football stars in the NFL is linebacker Lorenzo Carter. Carter appeared ready to enter his eighth season in the NFL after signing with the Tennessee Titans this offseason, but out of nowhere he announced that he instead is choosing to retire from football.

Linebacker Lorenzo Carter announced his retirement from the NFL
Carter began his career at Georgia in 2014 as a five-star recruit where he immediately burst onto the scene as a legit pass rusher. During his freshman season, he recorded 41 tackles, one fumble recovery and a whopping 4.5 sacks. From there he continued his dominance at Georgia for three more seasons where he finished his college career with 165 tackles, 14 sacks and six fumble recoveries.
Carter's impressive four seasons at Georgia was good enough for him to be drafted 66th overall in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the New York Giants. He spent his first four seasons in the NFL with the Giants where he recorded his career high five sacks during the 2021 season. After the 2021 season Carter made the move to the Atlanta Falcons where Georgia fans were able to once again cheer him on.
After three years with the Falcons, Carter was on the move once again this offseason as he signed a new contract with the Tennessee Titans. However, after just a few short months as a Titan he has now announced that he is retiring from football.
It's unclear why Carter has made this decision after initially planning on playing with the Titans this fall, regardless Carter has decided to call it quits after a solid NFL career. Carter likely will be more remembered because of his dominance at Georgia, but he also had a very impressive NFL career as well that he should be very proud of.
