Tennessee football fans are known for making one of the harshest environments for visiting teams to play in. They not only have over 100,000 passionate fans jammed into Neyland Stadium, but they are always engaged in the game and make life as difficult as possible for the visiting team.
That is a hurdle Georgia is going to have to overcome on Saturday when they take the field against the Volunteers, but starting kicker Peyton Woodring isn't scared. In fact, he welcomes the road environment and enjoys the difficulties that come with kicking on the road.
"I feel like, funny enough, I actually like playing away more," Woodring shared via sports.yahoo.com. "Because I feel like the crowd is more involved -- and they're actually yelling. Whenever you're at home, nobody's yelling or anything. So I enjoy the pressure of it. It's fun. It gets my adrenaline up."
Peyton Woodring isn't scared of Tennessee fans
Woodring made an interesting comparison to what it is like kicking at home in Sanford Stadium and kicking on the road. When kicking during a home game, the stadium is actually pretty silent. Georgia fans don't want to distract him when he is lining up for a field goal, so the crowd is pretty quiet as they wait to see if Woodring can knock the kick through the uprights.
The experience on the road however is much different because the opposing fans will do anything they can to distract him when he's lining up for his kick.
Georgia's game against Tennessee on Saturday may just be the game that is most difficult for Woodring to kick in. He however isn't scared of the moment and sounds like he is actually looking forward to this opportunity.
One thing is certain though, Woodring better hope he makes all of his kicks on Saturday after these comments because Tennessee fans won't let him hear the end of it if he doesn't.
