Georgia has joined the upper echelon of the recruiting race for standout defensive lineman Kasi Currie. While it originally looked like either Ohio State or Texas would ultimately end up holding the keys when all was said and done, it is clear that Currie's recent visit to Georgia made a lasting impact on him.
Some of that has to do with former Georgia great Jalen Carter.
"Jalen Carter is my favorite player and he went to Georgia and was coached by coach (Tray) Scott, that's a big deal for me," Currie said in a recent interview with On3.
Georgia originally offered Currie on Jan. 26. He holds offers from a number of prestigious programs, including Ohio State, Oregon, LSU, Texas and Oklahoma, just to name a handful. The 6-foot-4, 315-pounder out of Sierra Canyon High School (Chatsworth, Calif.) is currently listed by 247Sports as a 4-star prospect for the 2027 recruiting cycle. He is ranked by the network as the No. 3 overall prospect in the state of California, the No. 2 defensive lineman in the country and the No. 26 overall prospect in the nation.
How much sense does it make for Kasi Currie to land at Georgia?
There's no doubt that the Georgia Bulldogs face a lot of competition when it comes to beating out the Buckeyes and the Longhorns for this prospect, especially given how things have shaken out with the timeline of his offers and visits.
According to the 247Sports timeline, Currie has had two visits to Texas. The Longhorns originally offered him on June 20, 2025. Since then, he has attended the team's Junior Day on Jan. 17 and took an unofficial visit on March 9.
He has an official visit with the Longhorns on June 5.
As for the Buckeyes, Currie was offered on Sept. 3 of 2025. The timeline that has followed for his relationship with Ohio State included an unofficial visit on April 4 and will also include an official visit to Columbus on May 29.
Those official visits are key here, as the saying goes, you're already behind in recruiting a player if you haven't already had those or have not at least locked them in. Looking at the recruiting path ahead for Currie, who remains uncommitted, his path will include at least two more official visits outside of those already mentioned. He's got one lined up with the Oregon Ducks on June 12 and another one with the California Golden Bears on June 16.
Based on the way things have gone to this point in Currie's recruitment, it would be nothing short of surprising if either of those teams were to make enough of a lasting impression upon him to pull ahead of the trio of Georgia, Ohio State and Texas.
Georgia remains the only team of those three who does not have an official visit with Currie, though Benjamin Wolk of 247 Sports says that sources have indicated to him that Currie is likely to take an official visit to Athens at some point.
