Georgia football hosted over 18 recruits last weekend on official visits. One of those recruits who was in Athens was four-star offensive lineman Zykie Helton.
According to Rivals, Helton is the No. 31 ranked player at his position in the 2026 recruiting class. Considering he is an in-state recruit, it's clear why Georgia is very motivated to win this recruitment.
Helton was once committed to Alabama, but he has since backed off of that commitment to give teams like Georgia a chance in his recruitment. And it appears Georgia has taken full advantage of that chance as Adam Gorney with Rivals shared that UGA is the clear leader in his recruitment right now.
"Georgia continues to surge ahead in Helton’s recruitment and after another great visit there this weekend where he loved the “championship mindset” in everything they do, the Bulldogs are clearly a main contender in his recruitment," Gorney shared via uga.rivals.com. "Alabama is also up there (he was once committed to the Crimson Tide) and now Georgia Tech is also making a serious play for the four-star interior OL from Carrollton, Ga."
Two teams continue to pursue Helton along with Georgia
It is obviously great to hear that Gorney believes Georgia is the team to beat in this recruitment. But this recruitment is far from over because Alabama and Georgia Tech have not given up yet.
Helton will visit Georgia Tech this weekend before taking a trip to Alabama on June 20. That trip to Alabama is the most concerning of the two by far because he was once committed to the Tide, so there is always a chance that relationship could get rekindled like Georgia fans saw with quarterback Jared Curtis.
It will be interesting to see if Georgia remains the clear favorite after Helton's final two visits, and if they do the Bulldogs could get some great news later this month.
