Georgia football had the honor of hosting the game of the week in college football on Saturday. The Bulldogs welcomed undefeated Ole Miss to Athens, but the Rebels are leaving town undefeated no more after falling to Georgia 43-35.
Georgia takes control of their destiny in win vs Ole Miss
Georgia could not afford to lose to Ole Miss. Losing this game would have given them two losses in conference play which would be too much for them to overcome.
The Bulldogs did make it to Atlanta and won an SEC Championship last season with two losses, but this year would have been different. Georgia would have fallen behind both Alabama and Ole Miss by two games with the tiebreaker being in favor of both of those teams. That would have been too much to overcome.
Thankfully that is not a problem anymore and all Georgia needs to do is win their final three SEC games and they more than likely be in Atlanta to play for an SEC Championship.
Georgia's defense needs to be better
Georgia's defense put up another horrific performance on Saturday. The Bulldogs allowed a touchdown on the Rebels first five drives of the game which normally would be too much to overcome. Thankfully they were able to get a few stops at the end of the game, but giving up 35 points at home is never going to be good enough.
The good news is that Georgia's offense had the best game of their season, but something has to change if the Bulldogs are going to continue winning.
Lawson Luckie take a bow
The star of the night for Georgia was tight end Lawson Luckie who helped carry UGA to victory. Luckie finished the night with five catches for 43 yards and a whopping three touchdowns.
The Bulldogs have yet to utilize their tight ends very much this season, but that looks to have changed thanks to the heroics from Luckie.
Georgia is going to have a lot of time to celebrate this win as they are entering their second bye week of the season. Looming for the Bulldogs in two weeks is a date with the Florida Gators who will look to play spoiler and put an end to Georgia's dominance.
