Georgia football's next star freshman is already making waves during fall camp. Five-star defensive lineman Elijah Griffin was the top ranked commit in UGA's 2025 recruiting class, and with that title comes a lot of expectations.
Griffin has met those expectations since arriving on campus in the spring, and Georgia's scrimmage this past weekend showed that the hype around him this season is very real.
"Freshman defensive lineman Elijah Griffin rotated in with the first-team line and lived up to his hype, showing his power and speed," Mike Griffith shared via dawgnation.com.
Georgia freshman Elijah Griffin already earning his starting spot
As mentioned, Griffin was the highest ranked commit in Georgia's 2025 recruiting class. In fact, he was one of the top players in the country as he was the No. 3 overall recruit and the No. 1 defensive lineman in the 2025 class as well.
This fact alone made Georgia fans expect Griffin to make a huge impact on the field during his true freshman season this year. Those are some high expectations for any true freshman, but Georgia has a few freshman shine every season and Griffin seemed like the most likely candidate to break through.
And so far he is doing exactly that because he reportedly was already earning first team reps during Georgia's scrimmage this past weekend.
It will be interesting to see if Griffin is a starter week one against Marshall or if Kirby Smart decides to phase him to start the season. But Smart has already shared how impressive Griffin as been so far, so it would not be surprising to see him be a starter early this season if not in Georgia's first game on Aug. 30.
Regardless of if Griffin is a starter this season or not, he will be a big force on Georgia's defensive line this season. And in all likelihood he will blossom into the next great Georgia defensive lineman after the next three years.
