Georgia wide receiver Colbie Young suspended indefinitely
Tuesday morning news broke that Georgia wide receiver Colbie Young was arrested on one misdemeanor count of battery and one count of assault on an unborn child. Young has made bail but as his ongoing legal issues continue, Kirby Smart and the Georgia football program have decided to suspend the wide receiver indefinitely.
This news really isn't all that surprising as it was the only realistic choice that Smart had. Smart didn't have many comments to share Tuesday night on the matter, but this decision in my opinion was inevitable.
So now the question on everyone’s mind is how this suspension will impact Georgia’s offense moving forward?
Young has been a solid and reliable target so far this season in the Georgia offense. He hasn't been a lights out performer by any means, but he has made his presence known every game.
Early in the season, Young only had three combined receptions in Georgia’s first two games. However, he did score a touchdown in both games. Those were the only times Young has found the endzone this season, but he's still been a key contributor.
In the Bulldogs last two games against Alabama and Auburn, Young recorded three receptions in each game and eclipsed 50 receiving yards as well. So even though he hasn't been able to find the endzone, it’s clear he is a reliable target for Carson Beck.
This data tells us that losing Young is significant, but I won't sit here and tell you that it’s the end of the world. So far this year Young is the fourth leading receiver on this team. He's also one of six Bulldogs who has found the endzone through the air.
So while his loss won’t be easy to overcome I don't think it is one that will ruin Georgia’s chances at winning a championship. Other guys will now need to step up, but I have no doubt that they’ll be able to do so.
