It's time to say goodbye to the AP Poll and hello to the College Football Playoff rankings as the first edition of the CFP rankings were released on Tuesday night. The latest AP Poll had Georgia as the No. 5 team in the country, but the CFP committee has made drastic decisions in the past, so it was anyone's guess as to where they would rank UGA.

But the committee decided to do what everyone expected and ranked Georgia at No. 5 in their first release of the CFP rankings.

College Football Playoff committee rewards Georgia in initial rankings

Georgia earning the No. 5 seed from the CFP committee means one thing, the Bulldogs would get to host a first round CFP game in Athens. Last season Georgia had a bye into the quarterfinals of the playoff, but based on these rankings they would have to play in the first round this year. And since they are seeded No. 5, they will host the first playoff game in Sanford Stadium history.

Georgia's opponent would be Memphis who did not make it into the top 25 CFP rankings, but they are projected to be the highest ranked Group of Five champion so they would get an automatic spot in the 12-team field. This is the best case scenario for Georgia because it should be an easy win for the Bulldogs.

After that Georgia would be matched up with 4-seed Alabama in the quarterfinals. This might scare some Georgia fans, but the opportunity for revenge on the biggest stage is too good to pass up.

It's hard to project who Georgia would play next if they beat the Tide, but 1-seed Ohio State could be waiting for Georgia if they won their quarterfinal matchup. Similarly to Alabama, the opportunity to be the team to defeat the reigning National Champions would be a great spot to be in.

These rankings will certainly change a lot before the season ends, but as it stands the Bulldogs are comfortably in the 12-team field and would get to host their first ever playoff game in program history.
