Everybody knew Monroe Freeling would go early after his record-breaking NFL Combine. The question was not "what round" but "how soon in the first round."
Tonight that question was answered when the Carolina Panthers took him at No. 19 overall in the first round.
Freeling was able to prove, yet again, that being an offensive lineman for the Georgia Bulldogs pays dividends when it comes to NFL draft success.
Monroe Freeling’s career at Georgia
In an offensive line loaded with talent, Freeling did not truly get to shine until this past season in 2025. Before that, he was a key rotational piece that played occassionally when injuries occurred. However, that did not stop him in his junior season.
As a starting left tackle, he was awarded Second Team All-SEC honors. His toughness was also evident, playing through a severe high ankle sprain against Auburn in what was eventually a critical comeback victory for Georgia.
He might not have had the most lucrative career of offensive linemen at Georgia, but you cannot argue his intangibles, and that is what makes him such a valuable prospect in this draft.
Monroe Freeling’s fit with the Carolina Panthers
The Carolina Panthers were able to get an absolute steal for Freeling to fall into their laps at 19.
Even if there are questions about Freeling's experience level with only 18 career starts, he makes up for that in pure athleticism as he has the second highest Relative Athletic Score (RAS) recorded for an offensive lineman since 1987.
Freeling not only can be a great protector for Bryce Young's blindside, but he is quick enough to make a massive difference in the run game. He is an all-around leader, and will no doubt be the next great first rounder in the Kirby Smart era.
Dave Canales was able to get an absolute steal and will not have to worry about their left tackle for a long time coming.
