As of week ten of the college football season, the Georgia Bulldogs find themselves at 6-1 on the season and control their own destiny to win yet another National Championship. Gunner Stockton has led the Bulldogs to several key victories and has performed above everyone's expectations set for him.

In fact, Stockton is on pace to do something that has not been accomplished in 84 years at the University of Georgia, lead the team in rushing touchdowns as a quarterback. The last quarterback to do so? Frank Sinkwich in 1941.

College football has changed significantly in 84 years. Specifically, Georgia football has drastically changed. However, Georgia in 1941 and 2025 have found a similar way to be dominant.

Frank Sinkwich was a part of a Georgia football team that specialized in the running back/quarterback hybrid in a single-wing era of football. In 1941, Sinkwich rushed for 16 touchdowns and had more rushing yards than he did passing. Georgia went 9-1-1 that season and went on to beat TCU in the Orange Bowl.

The very next season? Sinkwich won the Heisman trophy. Could Stockton repeat history.

Gunner Stockton and Georgia today

Though they do not run a single-wing offense anymore, Georgia has specialized more in having a rushing quarterback this season than they have in a long time. Stockton has made a massive impact on several games with his ability to escape the pocket and is third on the team in rushing yards with 279.

Not only that, but he has also thrown the football significantly more than Georgia did 84 years ago. He has 10 passing touchdowns to just one interception this season which is about as good as it gets for a quarterback in the SEC.

Stockton has been an underrated candidate for the Heisman trophy this season, but like Sinkwich, his talent could be too much to go unrecognized in 2026.

Stockton has undoubtedly been the MVP of the Georgia offense. In his first year as a starter, he has led the team to victories over programs like Tennessee and Ole Miss when the defense allowed an uncharacteristic number of points.

Fans should watch out for Stockton. This rushing feat could be the thing that opens the eyes of the world to just what Stockton is capable of and has been achieving.
