Georgia football was on top of the college football world just a few years ago. The Bulldogs were coming off back-to-back National Championships which included a perfect 15-0 season, and at that point Georgia was the top dog in the country who didn't look like they were going anywhere.
Unfortunately their good fortunes in the College Football Playoff came to a screeching halt during the 2023 season. And ever since then the Bulldogs have not been able to find their footing in the playoff.
Georgia, Gunner Stockton must change the Bulldogs' playoff misfortunes
Georgia finished the 2023 regular season with a perfect 12-0 record. They entered the SEC Championship ranked No. 1 in the country and in prime position to make a run at a third straight National Championship. That is when their CFP nightmare began because they lost to Alabama in the SEC Championship game and missed the playoff altogether by finishing No. 6 in the final CFP rankings.
Fast forward one year to 2024 and the Bulldogs lost in their first game of the playoff. This loss came in the quarterfinals to Notre Dame in what was Gunner Stockton's fist start of his career, but the Irish were completely dominant and Georgia didn't have an answer for them.
Georgia was on top of the world two years ago after winning back-to-back national titles, but the last two years have been a nightmare for Stockton and the program. However, the Bulldogs look like one of the best teams in the country this year who is capable of beating anyone they face. So maybe this is their year.
However, even if Georgia looks like they are going to make a run in the playoff this year, no one can ever know for sure. The playoff has been a disaster for the last two years, so until they actually go out and win some games everyone in Athens is going to be a little hesitant and hold back their excitement.
