Just a few weeks ago Gunner Stockton made a costly mistake that could have cost Georgia in their game against Auburn. While leading the Tigers by three points, Stockton dove into the corner of the end zone to give UGA a 20-10 lead which ended up being the final score. But this touchdown was a mistake because it gave Auburn the ball back with a chance to make a late run and tie the game.

The argument for Stockton to not score in that moment is simple. Had he just picked up the first down and not scored Georgia could have ran the clock out and not given the ball back to Auburn. This would make it impossible for them to make a comeback, so it would have been better if Stockton did not score that touchdown.

Stockton coincidently found himself in this same situation against Florida on Saturday, and this time he made the right play by taking a knee on the one yard line instead of scoring a touchdown.

Kirby Smart will be happy with Stockton for making this play, but there are some Georgia fans out there who will likely be very upset.

Gunner Stockton could have covered the spread vs Florida

Georgia closed as a 6.5 or 7.5 point favorite depending on the sportsbook, so the Bulldogs failed to cover the spread on Saturday. But had Stockton scored this touchdown instead of giving himself up, Georgia more than likely would have held on to win by 10 points and cover the spread.

So the fans that bet on Georgia to cover the spread likely are a little upset that Stockton didn't score on this play.

But at the end of the day Stockton made the right play. Going down at the one yard line made it impossible for Florida to mount a comeback, and that matters far more than Stockton ensuring that he helps some fans win a pointless bet.
