Gunner Stockton has proven everyone wrong so far this season. Even the biggest Georgia fans couldn't have predicted how great Stockton would be this year, but he is firmly in the Heisman Trophy race after a dominant performance against Ole Miss.
But just how good has Stockton actually been? Every quarterback can play well against the lesser opponents on their schedule, but the best of the best thrive against their top competition. And data shows that Stockton has been the best quarterback in the SEC this season against ranked opponents.

Gunner Stockton's dominance against ranked opponents puts him in elite tier
So far Stockton has gone up against three ranked teams this season, and his stats in those games are out of this world. Comparing him to the rest of the SEC quarterbacks, Stockton is the leader in completion percentage at 75.6 percent and QB rating at 177.8. He also is the only QB to not throw an interception against a ranked opponent while also being second in the conference in touchdown passes (7) and yards per attempt (8.8).
The most important stat however is Georgia's record in these games which unfortunately is only 2-1. But that doesnt take away from these impressive performances from Stockton against the best teams Georgia has played this season.
The Bulldogs have two more ranked teams on their schedule this season, so it will be interesting to see if he can continue playing as well as he is. But it goes without saying that if he does then Georgia will have a great chance to win the SEC and Stockton himself will have a shot to win the Heisman for the third time in program history.
Georgia's next matchup is against Florida on Nov. 1, but their next ranked opponent isn't until they face Texas on Nov. 15.
