Gunner Stockton’s huge announcement isn’t being talked about enough

The national media are making a big mistake with Gunner Stockton.

Gunner Stockton made a huge announcement a few weeks ago that should’ve made national headlines. He announced that he said no to the NFL Draft and Transfer Portal and was returning to Georgia for another season.

Word also came out that Stockton was returning on a team friendly NIL deal as he made a huge financial sacrifice in order to help make the team around him better.

Normally news of this magnitude is talked about by every college football analyst, reporter and media personality, but that was not the case this time. Stockton’s announcement flew under the radar, but that might be exactly what he wants.

Gunner Stockton is flying under the radar

Stockton is a superstar. He is one of the top quarterbacks in all of college football who is leading a team in Georgia who just won the SEC two years in a row. He also is a Heisman Trophy contender this year and has Georgia in position to compete for a National Championship.

So why aren’t people talking about this announcement more? Surely him returning and taking a substantial pay cut is big news, right?

While no one can deny the talent he is on the field, Stockton isn’t the stereotypical superstar athlete. He doesn’t drive a fancy car, he isn’t super outgoing and he is a pretty quiet guy with the media. So that (for better or worse) is why his announcement isn’t getting the attention it deserves.

But that is probably more than okay with him. Stockton seems like the type of person more than happy to live in the shadows and let his play do the talking. All he really cares about is winning, and all of the offseason praise he could receive is irrelevant to him.

And while it may not seem fair to fans that he isn’t being talked about more, Stockton is probably enjoying the lack of attention as he gears up for his second season as Georgia’s starter.
