Saturday night the college football world crowned their latest Heisman Trophy winner. This year's Heisman race was as close as ever before, in fact the gap between the first and second place finishers was the closest it has been in the last 15 years.
And while the consensus among college football fans was that Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty deserved to win the award, Colorado's do-it-all superstar Travis Hunter was crowned the winner of the 2024 Heisman Trophy.
Hunter truly is a remarkable player as he is one of the top wide receivers and corners in the entire country. He did things we haven't seen done on a football field in a very long time, so Hunter is a deserving winner even though a lot of people thought Jeanty deserved to win.
Leading up to the Heisman Trophy ceremony, Hunter was receiving a lot of hype as the odds on favorite. And whenever that happens, analysts and college football experts love to compare that player to former college football and NFL legends, and Mike Griffith with the Atlanta Journal compared Hunter to a former Georgia football star.
Hunter compared to A.J. Green
In Griffith's article, he shared a comparison to Hunter and former Georgia star A.J. Green. Green was known for outworking everyone both in his time at Georgia and in the NFL, and that is the exact comparison Griffith shared.
Griffith shared that Colorado Defensive Coordinator Robert Liningston said that Hunter reminds him of Green, who was "the hardest worker he'd ever been around."
Hunter and Green are two very different players, but it's hard to deny this comparison especially when it comes from a coach who’s been around both players. As mentioned, Green is known for being a hard worker, and Hunter played far more snaps than anyone in the country this season as a two-way player. So there likely is no harder worker than Hunter in all of college football this season.
While it is nice to hear this comparison made about a former Georgia player, hopefully this time next season Georgia is mentioned in Heisman talks is because they have a player contending for the award.
