January may not seem like a month where a lot happens in college football, unless Georgia football is making a deep run in the College Football Playoff. But sitting here in early February and looking back at the first month of the year, it is quite easy to see how much action actually happened in the program.

So let's break down the month of January and review the six major things that occurred throughout the month.

1. Georgia earns commitments from two starting WRs in the portal

Potentially the biggest news for Georgia this month is when they received two commitments from starting caliber wide receivers.

The wide receiver room left a lot to be desired this past season, but Smart and his staff went out and quickly addressed those issues. They first got USC transfer Zachariah Branch to commit to Georgia. Branch is one of the top tansfers in the country at any position and is regarded by many as the most explosive player in all of college football. So itt's quite clear why this was a massive pickup.

Georgia however wasn't done at wide receiver as they went on to earn a commit later in the month from Texas A&M wide receiver Noah Thomas. Like Branch, Thomas is a top 10 receiver in the portal this year who will likely be a starter for Georgia in the fall. So what was once one of Georgia's worst positions quickly has turned into a strength as Smart and his staff went out and got two starting receivers from the portal.
