How should Georgia basketball's season be remembered?

Georgia fans can't let Thursday's loss ruin their memory of this season.

Recency bias is a real thing in sports. The "what have you done for me lately" argument will always be the thing that matters most in sports, and that is why there is a bad taste in the mouths of Georgia basketball fans after their blowout 89-68 loss in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to Gonzaga on Thursday.

It's impossible to not be upset with this result because going into the game every Georgia fan thought they had a chance to win, but that is not how the game played out. But as a fanbase, it is important to not let this game discredit all the success Mike White and Georgia found this year.

This season should be remembered as a success

Even though the season didn't end how anyone wanted, there was still a lot to love about this year. For starters, Georgia went 12-1 in non-conference play which included a win over 2-seed and Big East Champion St. John's.

The big wins didn't stop there as the Bulldogs also knocked off blue blood Kentucky during conference play as well. But the greatest win of the season by far was when Georgia defeated Florida a few weeks ago which sparked their four game win streak to close the regular season which sealed their spot in the NCAA Tournament.

All three of these wins will be remembered forever whenever the 2024-25 season is brought up in the future, and they will be remembered far more than this loss to Gonzaga.

But speaking of this loss to Gonzaga, they are a really good team. Losing to a team like Gonzaga isn't an embarrassing loss. If Georgia would have only lost by a couple points then likely no one would be feeling upset with this season at all. So it's important to not let this result take away from all the good that happened this season.

It will be interesting to see how Georgia does next season. The Bulldogs so far have improved under White ever season, so if that trend continues then UGA will be celebrating an NCAA Tournament win this time next year.
