Georgia football enters the Deep South's Oldest Rivalry coming off a dominant victory over Kentucky last week. Auburn however is coming off a bye after dropping their first two SEC games of the season.
But even though Georgia and Auburn are heading in different directions, Tigers head coach Hugh Freeze is extremely confident in his team. In fact, he issued a word of warning days before Georgia makes the trip to Jordan-Hare Stadium.
"I know that this team is closer than we’ve ever been in the two-and-a-half years that I've been here or so," Freeze shared via ugawire.usatoday.com. "I’m ready to get us over the hump. I don’t worry about the pressure or any of that."
Hugh Freeze warns Georgia of Auburn's upset bid
Freeze is in the middle of his third season as Auburn's head coach. So far Freeze is 0-2 against Georgia in his tenure, which includes an ugly 31-13 loss last season in Athens. Freeze's first matchup against Georgia in 2023 however was a solid showing for his squad as they only lost 27-20 to a UGA team that was ranked No. 1 in the country.
Entering his third matchup agianst Georgia though, Freeze is confident that he has his team as close to being able to beat Georgia as ever before. Georgia fans may find that comment hilarious because UGA has won the last eight meetings in this rivalry, but there is some to truth to it.
As mentioned, Auburn is 0-2 in the SEC this season, but both of their losses came on the road against some of the best teams in the country. Three weeks ago Auburn lost at Oklahoma 24-17 before losing at Texas A&M 16-10 the following week. Both the Sooners and Aggies are undefeated and ranked inside the AP Poll's top 10, so these losses truly aren't that bad.
But at the end of the day they are losses, but Freeze appears to have found some moral victories from these defeats that is giving him a lot of confidence heading into Saturday night's showdown against the mighty Bulldogs.
