Outside of Gunner Stockton, transfer wide receiver Zachariah Branch was the top performer for Georgia football last week against Marshall. Branch led the Bulldogs both in receptions (3) and receiving yards (95) while also scoring one touchdown as well.
This was quite the debut for Branch in a Georgia uniform, but it didn't come without a scare as well.
During a punt return against Marshall, Branch went down a little awkward on a tackle. He was able to leave the field on his own without any problems, but this tackle made Georiga fans hold their breath for the rest of the game.
Smart however shared earlier this week that Branch did not suffer any injuries from that tackle. He also discussed how Branch was dealing with some cramps as well, but that is nothing anyone should be worried about long term.
Zachariah Branch Week 2 injury update
"I think he probably was a little amped up and a little anxious, which, you know, that's one of the things that happens is you cramp up when you do that," Smart said via 247sports.com. "He ended up catching some cramps there for a little bit."
The fact that Smart did not share anything when it comes to a significant injury to Branch shows that there are zero concerns entering Saturday's game against Austin Peay. So it sounds like Branch will still be starting on Georgia's offense while also returning punts for the Bulldogs on special teams as well.
The hope now is that Branch will be able to have another massive game for Georgia against Austin Peay. Branch's emergence will be key for UGA this season as the Bulldogs haven't had an elite playmaker at wide receiver for a few years now. But Branch showed the big play potential he has against Marshall, and it will be critical for him to keep that up against Austin Peay on Saturday.
