Georgia football will always be the most beloved team in Athens, but it's time to start believing in Georgia basketball and fully getting behind this team.

Georgia has started their season a perfect 3-0, but looking at the names of the opponents they've played probably doesn't excite many. The Bulldogs have defeated Tennessee Tech (83-78), Texas Southern (92-64) and North Florida (90-77). All three of these games were at home as well, so some might be wondering why this is cause for excitement.

But when looking at their last win against North Florida a little more closely, it becomes more clear how great of a win that really was.

Georgia basketball's impressive win over North Florida

Heading into this game, North Florida was a perfect 3-0 with road wins over South Carolina and Georgia Tech this season. These two power five wins had some college basketball experts saying this North Florida team should be ranked if they beat Georgia.

That however wasn't even close to happening.

As mentioned, Georgia beat North Florida 90-77. While a 13-point win isn't a blowout in basketball, the game felt more out of reach than that for North Florida. UGA got off to a fast start and held a solid lead all first half, taking a 43-31 lead into the half. North Florida never cut the lead to single digits in the second half, and Georgia even had a 20-point lead at one point. So a team that many thought could beat Mike White and Georgia never even stood a chance.

Georgia was led by Clemson transfer RJ Godfrey, who had a team high 21 points and 12 rebounds on an efficient 8/11 shooting.

Up next for Georgia is a big rivalry game. The Bulldogs hit the road for the first time this season and trabel to Atlanta to play Georgia Tech. As mentioned, Georgia Tech did lose to this North Florida team earlier this season already, but this game will not be easy.

But if this UGA team is as good as some are saying, and if they are in fact a legit threat to make the NCAA tournament, this is a game they have to win.
