Offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell is one recruit that everyone has their eyes on. And that’s for good reason because he is the No. 1 overall player in the country, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
So any college football fan can understand that it will be breaking news any time Cantwell makes an announcement in his recruitment, no matter how minor of an announcement it is. However, on Wednesday Cantwell made a huge update to his recruit, one that is very good news for Georgia football in their pursuit of him.

Jackson Cantwell shifts commitment date for Georgia
Earlier in April, Cantwell announced his top four schools which consisted of Georgia, Ohio State, Oregon and Miami (FL). Cantwell also announced that he would be committing on April 30.
Cantwell’s announcement on Wednesday did not alter who his top four schools are, he did however push his commitment date back two weeks to May 13. Why did he do this? Cantwell made this change so he could make one final visit to Georgia before he makes his final decision, a visit that will take place on May 10 just days before he announces his commitment.
This news is obviously extremely massive for Georgia because their chances in this recruitment were not looking great. While Cantwell has visited UGA throughout his recruitment, the most noise being made recently has come from Oregon, who is hosting Cantwell on an official visit beginning April 26. So the thought was his visit to Oregon days before his original commitment date would be enough to give the Ducks the win.
But that no longer is the case.
Now it’s Kirby Smart and Georgia who are getting the last visit, which sometimes is a sign of who the favorite to win a recruitment is. However, it is not a guarantee that Georgia will win Cantwell’s recruitment, but there is a lot to love about this update from the nation’s No. 1 player.
So stay tuned as there likely will be a lot of buzz coming out after his trip to Oregon this weekend and during the build up to his final visit to Athens next month.
