It is about time Georgia football finally received some respect in the All-America teams.
The disrespect has mainly surrounded linebacker Jalon Walker, who was crowned the winner of the 2024 Butkus Award which goes to the nation's best linebacker. But he somehow was not a first team All-SEC selection and was even put on the All-America third team by the Associated Press.
But it's the coaches All-America teams that finally gave Walker, as well as two other Bulldogs, the credit they deserved as three players were named to the Coaches' All-America first team.
Georgia football earns three selections to the Coaches' All-America first team
As mentioned, Walker was a selection to the coaches' first team as he continues to rack up the postseason honors this year.
The second selection to the Coaches' All-America first team was offensive lineman Tate Rateledge. This selection is a little surprising not because Ratledge isn't a deserving player, but because he missed a few games with an injury this season. Usually these honors tend to go to players who stayed healthy and were able to play in almost every game, but Ratledge was able to make up for that this season with his excellent play on the field.
The third and final selection to the Coaches' All-America first team is safety Malaki Starks. Starks had a magnificent season in the secondary and recorded 73 tackles, three pass deflections and one interception. Georgia's defense has had moments this season where they have dominated their opponents, and Starks is one of the biggest reasons why that occurred.
While these awards are always nice to win, the most important thing for Georgia is winning a National Championship. And their College Football Playoff journey begins on Jan. 1 against the winner of this Friday's first round game between Indiana and Notre Dame.
