James Cook blew the roof off Bills new stadium on opening night

Thursday nigh marked the opening night of the Bills new stadium. No team wants to lose their first game in their new stadium, and James Cook helped make sure that wasn't going to happen as he exploded for 135 rushing yards en route to the Bills 41-31 victory over the Detroit Lions.

Cook finished the night with 135 yards and one touchdown (his first of the season) on 21 carries. It was his touchdown though that officially put the game out of reach towards the end of the game when the Lions were still within striking distance.

James Cook has to have a serious conversation with Josh Allen

Bills quarterback Josh Allen found the end zone five times during this game. Three of his touchdowns came through the air, but he also scored twice on the ground which could've gone to Cook instead.

Allen's two rushing touchdowns combined for just three yards. His first of the game was from one yard out while the second doubled that distance to just two yards out. Those rushing attempts could've gone to Cook to help him add to his touchdown total, but Allen kept the ball for himself instead to add to his total.

Allen is a dual-threat quarterback, so it's expected for him to be a threat on the ground. It's also gotten to the point where it isn't surprising for him to score a touchdown with his legs every game. Cook however would love to get those touches with the ball on the goal because he wants to score too, but the Bills ultimately chose to feed Allen likely to help him win the MVP Award this season.

Cook at the end of the day probably doesn't care who scores, especially when he already had a good night. Georgia fans however would love to see him find the end zone more though, but either way Cook is still on pace to have a better season than last year which ended with him winning the NFL's rushing title.

James Cook is eyeing the NFL rushing title for the second year in a row

James Cook led the NFL in rushing yards last season with 1,621. This year he already has 192 yards though two games which puts him on pace for 1,632 this year. Who knows if another running back will surpass his total from last year, but through two games he is on pace to match his NFL leading total from a season ago.

Cook became just the third Georgia running back to win the NFL's rushing title last season. Now he has a chance to become just the fifth player in NFL history to win the rushing title in back-to-back seasons and the first to do it since Derrick Henry in 2019 and 2020.

Cook has cemented himself as one of the best running backs in the league again this season. It remains to be seen if he will win the rushing title again this year, but it's clear that he and the Bills have a special thing going this season.
