The championship games in the NFC and AFC were played on Sunday in the NFL Playoffs, and the second of the two games was an instant classic. The Buffalo Bills traveled to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs who are looking to three-peat as Super Bowl Champions. And while the Bills put up a good fight, Kansas City was able to hold on and beat the Bills 32-29.
Many players stood out during this game especially on the Chiefs team, but there was one player on the Bills who arguably had the best performance. And it just so happens that they are a former Georgia football superstar.
James Cook dominates in AFC Championship game
It’s unfortunate that Buffalo didn’t win this game, because running back James Cook did everything he could to lead the Bills to victory and definitely played well enough to win this game. Cook finished the game with just 13 carries, be he tallied 85 yards and two touchdowns. He was also active in the passing game and added three receptions for 49 additional yards as well.
While it is exciting to score any touchdown at this point in the playoffs, Cook’s second touchdown of the night was about as impressive of a touchdown as you will ever see.
With a few minutes to play in the 3rd quarter, the Bills were trailing 21-16 with the ball deep in Chiefs’ territory. However, they found themselves in a 4th & Goal from the two. This is typically the time the Bills let QB Josh Allen attempt to find the end zone with his legs, and that’s what it looked like they were going to do until Allen pitched the ball to Cook. Cook unfortunately didn’t have an easy stroll into the end zone, so he ended up going airborne and just barely stretched the ball across the goal line.
It’s a shame that the Bills came up short as it would have been fun to watch Cook in the Super Bowl. However, the Chiefs have two former Bulldogs on their team and their opponent the Philadelphia Eagles have four Bulldogs as well. So Georgia fans will have a lot to cheer for in two weeks when the Chiefs and Eagles battle it out in the Super Bowl.
