Backup LA Rams quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo announced earlier this week that he is thinking about retiring. This would be significant news for Georgia fans because that in theory would allow Stetson Bennett to slide up and become the new backup QB in LA.
If Garoppolo retires the Rams would have to decide if they trust Bennett enough to be their backup or if they need to go out and get someone else for that spot. Either way the Rams would likely want to add another quarterback to compete with Bennett so they have a solid third string option either way.
One way they could fill this void is by drafting a QB in the NFL Draft this week. And who's on the board that they could grab to compete with Bennett? None other than Carson Beck.
Carson Beck and Stetson Bennett could battle this year to be the LA Rams backup
Can you imagine a quarterback competition between Bennett and Beck in the NFL? Bennett is the most beloved quarterback in Georgia history while Beck became one of the most disliked after he transferred to Miami. So seeing these two battle it out to be Matthew Stafford's backup in LA would be quite the treat.
Nearly every Georgia fan would want Bennett to win that battle, and he would definitely be the frontrunner because he has more experience than Beck. But the Rams would give Beck a chance to win that job, so anything is possible.
It's unclear at this point if the Rams are going to draft a quarterback or not, but with this news from Garoppolo it wouldn't be surprising. They likely wouldn't be in the market for one of the top QBs in the draft, so taking Beck somewhere in the middle of the draft could make sense.
Only time will tell if this happens or not, but this would be quite the turn of events for Georgia fans if it did.
