Joel Klatt's updated top 10 makes no sense for Georgia
Fox Sports analyst Joel Klatt has published his most recent top 10 rankings after a big weekend of college football. Georgia football has been included in each week's edition at some capacity, but where Klatt ranked the Bulldogs this week is tough to make sense of.
A lot of that has to do with the fact that Georgia is a two loss team, but they have three of the best wins in the country including Clemson, Texas and Tennessee from this past Saturday.
To be fair to Klatt, he did rank Georgia pretty fairly in the rankings below, but there are still a lot of things that aren't adding up about where he has put Georgia.
Georgia is No. 6 in Joel Klatt's updated top 10
As mentioned, Kirby Smart and Georgia coming in at No. 6 is a very fair spot for them to be. But the teams below and above Georgia are a little strange.
For starters, Georgia's two losses (Alabama and Ole Miss) are directly below them in these rankings. With all three teams sitting at 8-2 this season, one would think Klatt would give a little more credit to the Tide and Rebels for actually beating Georgia on the field.
But if Klatt is willing to look past that and still put Georgia above them both, why stop there?
Penn State and Indiana are 9-1 and 10-0 respectively, but neither team has one good win on their resume. So surely Georgia could be ranked higher than them if Klatt is willing to put Georgia above the two teams that beat them.
After that it's unlikely that Georgia should be any higher. Oregon and Ohio State definitely deserve to be above Georgia, and Texas being higher makes some sense, even though Georgia beat them, because they only have one loss. But the grouping of teams ranked directly above and below Georgia is a little confusing.
However, there really is no right or wrong answer for how these teams should be ranked. That just goes to show how much of a jumbled mess this year's teams are and how close everyone is to each other.
So maybe this is the perfect season to introduce the new 12-team College Football Playoff, because it will give all of these teams a chance to prove they belong on the field against each other.
