Georgia football's offense struggled at times last year, but this year will hopefully be different on all fronts. New starters will be featured in new roles, and young players will have gained more experience.
One player that fits both of these criteria is the likely new starting quarterback Gunner Stockton. While Stockton has a lot to prove when the season begins if he wins the starting job, one thing that is already very intriguing are his legs and the potential dynamic weapon he will be this season with them.
Stockton can use his legs to change Georgia's offense
Head Coach Kirby Smart and Offensive Coordinator Mike Bobo do not want a repeat of last season on offense. Thankfully Georgia now has Stockton who has the ability to use his legs to add a new dimension to the offense that they didn't have last season. Former QB Carson Beck wasn't a statue in the pocket, but he rarely used his legs to hurt defenses in a way that Stockton can.
Stockton is a toolsy player that will make his SEC debut at the start of the season. It isn't his first time starting, but playing in the SEC for the first time isn't easy. If Stockton maximizes his physical tools in addition to his legs, he could do wonders for the Georgia offense. Fans could potentially see Stockton making defenses pay on third down or short yardage situations when defenses usually don't account for the quarterback, and that can be potent on critical plays.
The vision for Stockton's legs would not be using them consistently like a Cam Newton or Jalen Hurts. The better comparison to make is to Ohio State quarterback Will Howard. Stockton needs to make defenses pay when they don't account for him or when he sees an opportunity, just like Howard did last season.
Stockton's legs are an underrated aspect to this Georgia offense that when combined with the talent at wide receiver and running back could make this year's offense significantly better than last season.
