Likely every Georgia football fan knows the bad news surrounding UGA's annual G-Day. But in case anyone has missed the news, Kirby Smart has confirmed that G-Day will not be televised this year.
That is very unfrotunate news because thousands of passionate Georgia fans will not be able to watch the game at home now like they do every year. This is the only chance fans will get to see the team live before the regular season begins in the fall, so now Georgia fans won't get their tiny fill of Georgia football this spring like they usually do.
So what is the reason why Smart isn't televising the game? Some might think it is because of the rampant tampering taking over college football right now, but the answer Smart gave is actually much simpler than that.
"In terms of TV, I think it was more about being controlled on what time and in terms of we like to have recruits there,"Smart shared via 247sports.com. "We like to have prospects come in. It's a big event. We have official visits, so we want to control the timing of it more and we want to be able to play at our pace and not have to worry about the constraints of being inside a window."
Georgia wanted more control
Smart stated that the game is not being televised because the networks were not allowing Georgia to have control of the timing of the event. And if that is actually the reason, then it makes sense because of how big of an event this is off the field for the program.
Georgia always hosts a large list of recruits for G-Day, so not being able to control the timing of the game could mess up their weekend plans with these recruits.
Hopefully this won't be an ongoing problem in the future, that way fans at home can watch Georgia's G-Day next season. But for now, UGA fans will not get to see the team in action this spring unless they make the trip to Athens to watch G-Day in person.
