Minutes after Georgia football defeated No. 2 Texas 22-19 in overtime, head coach Kirby Smart was interviewed in front of the entire crowd during Georgia's celebration. He used this time to talk about how proud he was of his team and the fanbase in attendance as well as the season ahead for Georgia in the College Football Playoff.

And it was when he began talking about the CFP that Smart made an interesting comment about SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey, who just so happened to be standing a few feet away from him on the stage.

Smart was sharing how one of the best things about this win was that Georgia is now off until New Year's Day when their quarterfinal CFP matchup will be played. And he took this opportunity to voice his displeasures with Georgia's schedule that Sankey and his staff gave them this season.

"That means rest for a team that Greg Sankey and his staff sent on the road all year long."

Georgia's difficult conference schedule

Georgia football had the most difficult schedule in the entire country this season. Part of that had to do with the difficult non-conference opponents they scheduled which includes Clemson and Georgia Tech, but it was the Bulldogs' SEC schedule that was borderline ridiculous.

Georgia has no say in who they will play in conference play. They do know that they will likely play their rivals Auburn and Florida every season, but beyond that Georgia's schedule is solely up to the SEC. And this year, the SEC gave Georgia as difficult of a schedule as anyone could have created.

This included road games agaist Texas, Alabama and Ole Miss as well as a home game against Tennessee.

One argument people make when one team has a far more difficult conference schedule than others is that no one truly knows how good or bad a team will be before the season begins. While that is partially true, it is a little extreme to say no one will have "any clue" who will be good and who will be bad. Everyone knew these four teams would likely be the best teams in the SEC this season, and that is exactly how it turned out as they are the top four teams in the conference after Georgia.

So Smart and Georgia will gladly take all this time off now before the CFP, because Sankey and the SEC did them no favors with their schedule this season.
