Georgia football has survived their second game in a row with their depleted running back room, this time by beating UMass 59-21.
Freshman Nate Frazier has shined the last two weeks as the featured back, but if UGA wants to accomplish their goals this season then they are going to need to get some more help for Frazier.
Two of those running backs that Georgia is hoping make a return soon are Branson Robinson and Roderick Robinson. Both players have been out for a significant amount of time, but Kirby Smart spoke about their potential return after Georgia’s win on Saturday.
"Yeah, I don't know. Branson was doing more last week than Rod. Although Rod was kind of with the training staff, Branson did get to do some individual and do some cutting," Smart said via 247sports.com. "I don't know, I didn't get to see him today. Obviously, they ran, but I don't know how much cutting they did. And we'll continue to work those guys. We're hopeful to get them back soon."
Return date is still unknown
Based on Smart’s comments it does sound like both players are inching closer to a return, but it does appear that they still have a while to go. So it is very unlikely either player will see the field this Friday against Georgia Tech, but there could be a chance that they make a return during the postseason.
As long as Frazier stays healthy then the Georgia running back room will be fine. Especially if Trevor Etienne makes his return soon, which is more likely to occur sooner rather than later.
But it goes without saying that UGA’s running back room would be at its best with all of these players back and healthy. And how awesome would that be if they all happened to be back just in time for the playoffs?
