The biggest story in all of college football right now surrounds Tennessee football and their start quarterback Nico Iamaleava. Actually, Iamaleava is no longer Tennesse's star QB as he will officially be entering the transfer portal.
An elite quarterback entering the transfer portal really isn't that shocking anymore, Georgia experienced this just a few months ago with Carson Beck, but how Tennessee and Iamaleava go to this point is what makes this the biggest transfer news in the history of the transfer portal era.
Towards the end of spring ball at Tennessee, Iamaleava skipped practice and stopped communicating with his coaching staff as he demanded to be paid more money. Tennessee, which the public has praised the Vols for, quickly decided to move on from Iamaleava which is forcing him to enter the transfer portal.
Georgia head coach Kirby Smart was asked about this situation on Saturday after G-Day, and his response is a breath of fresh air for Georgia fans.
"Don't know that I know that. I don't know enough about that situation to fairly comment on it," Smart shared via 247sprots.com. "I mean, I basically know what you guys know. And then you don't know what's real, what's being reported, what's being leaked, what are the reasons for all of it? Again, I'm worried about my house, and I try to control what goes on in my house. I can't worry about everybody else's house. So the climate is different. But again, I'm focused on the kids we got who wanna be here."
Kirby Smart isn't getting distracted
Smart and his coaching staff have plenty to worry about with their own team which includes preparing them for the upcoming regular season and getting ready to for the upcoming transfer portal season themselves. So they don't really have time to worry about what is happening at other schools right now, even at an SEC program they will face this season in Tennessee.
So hearing that Smart is solely focused on his team and what he needs to do to prepare them for the season ahead is a nice thing to see in a college football world that is consumed with drama.
But it is impossible to ignore the fact that Georgia's chances to win the SEC next season did improve with this news. Tennessee was projected to be one of the top teams in the conference, and the Bulldogs have a game at Tennessee week three this season as well. But that game will not have Iamaleava in it, so Georgia's chances to return to Athens with a big win definitely increased after this news.
