Kirby Smart, Georgia would be wise to circle back with some Alabama commits

Alabama football is a program on the decline. That is something no SEC fan ever thought would be true, but the Crimson Tide are in the middle of a free fall that doesn't appear to be stopping anytime soon.

Alabama began their 2025 season at Flroida State and were decent favorites entering the game, but that didn't matter as the Tide lost 31-17. The Seminoles are a much improved team compared to last season, but this is a great time to remind everyone that they only won two games in 2024, so this is just not a game that the Alabama of old would ever lose.

But this edition of Alabama did lose, and this loss marked the fifth loss for the Tide in their last 10 games.

Even after all of these losses though, the Tide have one of the top 2026 recruiting classes in the country. This includes multiple elite commits that Georgia pushed hard for as well. But after this tough loss for Alabama, Kirby Smart and his staff may be wise to contact a few of these recruits again and see if they are sure they want to stick with Alabama still.

Georgia should attempt to poach some Alabama commits

A quick look at Alabama's current recruiting class will remind Georgia fans of a few recruits they should recognize. Many of their top commits were players that had Georgia in their final group who were high on UGA for most of their recruitment, but they ultimately chose to go down a different path at the end of the day.

Players like running back Ezavier Crowell, safety Jireh Edwards, wide receiver Cederian Morgan and linebacker Xavier Griffin were all players that Georgia really wanted. These four recruits also make up the best commits in Alabama's current class, so it is clear how great of players they are.

The big question that remains is if these players will want to flip away from Alabama if the Tide continue to lose. And based on Alabama's recent track record, there looks to be a lot more losses in their near future which could include Georgia when they travel to Athens during week five.

So if Georgia is able to beat Alabama in week five, Smart should pick up the phone and reach out to these players and see if they have any interest in Georgia still. Who knows if any of these players would be willing to ditch Alabama, but it's clear that Georgia is the much better program, so it's not insane to suggest that they may want to head to Athens next year instead if the Tide continue to struggle.
