Kirby Smart is known to make headlines all the time since becoming the head coach for Georgia football. But it's not too often that he's being mentioned in a game that doesn't feature Georgia, or even a team in the SEC for that matter.

But that is exactly what happened Saturday night after Syracuse upset Miami (FL).

You might be wondering how Smart is even relevant to this game, but that all becomes clear when we remember that the head coach at Syracuse is former Georgia defensive back coach Fran Brown.

Brown was on Georgia's defensive staff for the 2022 and 2023 seasons before being named the Syracuse head coach at the end of last season. And Brown has very quickly turned things around at Syracuse as they just wrapped up a very impressive 9-3 campaign.

But it was after the game when Brown was being interviewed when he gave a shoutout to Smart on national TV because of a message Smart gave him before this game.

"Hey Kirby Smart, thank you for that message earlier, Kirby. Means so much to me, Coach Smart. I appreciate you. I love you. Thank you.”

This video just goes to show how great of a person Smart is. Everyone knows how elite of a coach Smart is, but one thing that sometimes gets lost in the shuffle with any head coach is who they are as a person. And this is just another example of Smart showing how great of a person he is.

Now Smart definitely didn't help Brown gameplan, but those words of encouragement, or whatever message he gave Brown, clearly struck a cord for Brown to mention Smart minutes after he and Syracuse pulled off this massive upset.

So while it's weird to ever cheer for a team other than Georgia, Syracuse is one program that UGA fans should have somewhat of an interest in. Brown did great things at Georgia, and he clearly still has a great releationship with Smart, so hopefully he's able to continue finding success at Syracuse and wherever else his career takes him.
