While Georgia still has some work to do to wrap up their 2026 recruiting class, Kirby Smart and his staff are beginning to turn a lot of their attention to the 2027 class. There are a lot of recruits that Georgia is beginning to prioritize, and one of those recruits is five-star EDGE DJ Jacobs.
Jacobs is from the state of Georgia, so it isn't surprising to learn that Georgia is extremely motivated to get him in their recruiting class. And that is a message that Jacobs recently received loud and clear directly from Smart himself.

Kirby Smart makes it clear that DJ Jacobs is a priority
According to 247Sports, Jacobs is the No. 3 overall player in the country. He also is the top ranked EDGE in the 2027 recruiting class and the No. 1 player from the Peach State as well.
The above statement from Smart may be short, but it sends a very clear message to Jacobs. It lets him know that Smart will do anything to get him in Georgia's recruiting class, and that message could pay dividends for UGA as Jacobs' recruitment ramps up.
There is one thing that is on Georgia's side in this recruitment, and that is the fact that Jacobs' father player for Georgia as well. So he very well could be leaning towards UGA because he wants to keep the family tradition alive.
The Bulldogs are one of two schools on Jacobs' 247Sports profile that have the "warm" label. SEC rival Tennessee also has that label as well, so this currently seems like a battle between Georgia and the Vols at the moment.
Time will tell how this recruitment plays out, but it's clear that Georgia is going to be a major player throughout the entirety of Jacobs' recruitment.
