Auburn may be 3-2 and unranked, but it will not be easy for Georgia to beat them this weekend. One of the biggest reasons why is because of the explosive and talented Auburn offense that can beat any team in multiple ways.
There are a lot of weapons on Auburn's offense, but Kirby Smart knows that wide receiver Eric Singleton will be the most challenging player for Georgia to defend this weekend.
"Well, he's a weapon. I mean, he's a vertical weapon," Smart shared via 247sports.com. "He's a horizontal and vertical speed. We've seen him, you know, at Georgia Tech. He's a great player. They do a great job getting touches. They put him in the backfield, they motion him out of the backfield, they hand him sweeps, they take him vertical, they throw him screenings. I mean, you have to defend the guy every way possible. That's what good offensive coordinators do with good offensive players."
Eric Singleton will challenge Georgia in multiple ways
Singleton is a transfer wide receiver from Georgia Tech. Through five games with Auburn he has racked up 27 catches for 265 yards and two touchdowns. He also has been featured in the run game as well, but he has only totaled 28 rushing yards on six carries so far this season.
Smart expalined to perfection why it is so difficult to defend Singleton. He has the speed to get down the field and take the top of a defense while also being effective in short yardage situations. Auburn also moves him all over the field before the snap, so Georgia will never really know where he will line up next.
Singleton dominated Georgia last season when he still played for Georgia Tech as he hauled in eight catches for 86 yards and a touchdown. So Singleton will have a lot of confidence entering Saturday's contest knowing how much success he found agianst Georgia last season.
Georgia can't afford to let Singleton get loose if they are going to beat Auburn. Unfortunately Georgia's secondary has been one of their weaknesses so far this season, but it sounds like Smart knows how important it is going to be to have his team ready to do whatever it takes to slow him down.
