Kirby Smart just can't find any success recruiting a quarterback in the 2027 recruiting class. A lot of that may have to do with five-star signal caller Jayden Wade already being committed to their 2028 class because not many recruits will want to go to the same school to compete against him.

That is what has transpired with four-star Peter Bourque who seemed like he was loving Georgia. But Penn State was just predicted to win his recruitment, so Smart is left with no choice but to go after someone else.

The good news is that Smart has locked in on another elite recruit to target in Colton Nussmeier.

Colton Nussmeier is Georgia's next best chance at landing an elite QB

Everyone thought Georgia was locked in on Peter Bourque to be their quarterback commit in the 2027 recruiting class. And he may have been Smart's No. 1 choice, but Penn State was just predicted to win his recruitment and that forced Smart to look for someone else.

Enter Nussmeier who will reportedly be visiting Athens this spring.

Nussmeier is a four-star quarterback and the No. 140 overall player in the country. He also is the No. 19 ranked quarterback in the 2027 class and the No. 10 player from his home state of Texas.

Nussmeier is a new name for Georgia fans to follow on the recruiting trail. His name however might sound a little familiar because he is the younger brother of former LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier and son of Doug Nussmeier who is the current offensive coordinator of the New Orleans Saints.

Football is clearly in his DNA, and landing a player with that many connections would be a big win for Smart. It's unclear how serious he actually is about Georgia, but he is giving them a chance to make a big impression later this spring.
