Georgia football struggled to a 28-6 victory against Austin Peay on Saturday, and the offense was to blame for a lot of their issues. UGA fans however are refursing to make any excuses because Georgia should have had no problems winning by a larger margin regardless of what happened throughout the game.
But there is one excuse Georgia fans are clinging to, and that is the health of their offensive line. The Bulldogs already have had three offensive linemen injured this season, which includes the two starters on the right half of the line. And while that is a good explanation for why Georgia's line struggled on Saturday, Kirby Smart isn't allowing that to be an excuse.
"I mean, I don't want to lean on that,” Smart shared via 247Sports.com. “I mean, we've had injuries every year we've been here, right? I don't run from injuries… But that's part of it. When you have injuries, you've got to have a guy step up and be ready to play."
Kirby Smart isn't making any excuses for Georgia's poor performance
No one can deny that injuries to offensive linemen are extremely detrimental to an offense. The success of an offense starts and ends with the offensvie line, so if the group is struggling that will lead to a lot of difficulties on offense. And when multiple injuries happen to offensvie linemen at the same time, it can be very challenging to overcome.
That is exactly what happened to Georgia on Saturday as multiple injuries cause the Bulldogs line to really struggle in pass protection. But Smart isn't letting injuries be an excuses for their struggles. Injuries are something that happens every season, and the teams that win championships are the ones who find a way to overcome them. Thankfully Ausitn Peay wasn't able to take advantage of Georgia's struggles on offense, but as UGA's competition increases they may not get so lucky.
Thankfully Georgia may get some of their injured offensive linemen back by next week because they are going to need all the help they can get to beat Tennessee on the road.
