Georgia's defense has not been as great this season as they have been in year's past. But even if that is the case, they have still had some great moments this year.
But not everyone has been impressed with Georgia on the defensive side of the ball this season. One person in particular who voiced his concerns is ESPN commentator Jesse Palmer who was part of the TV crew calling Georgia's win against Kentucky last weekend. During this game Palmer discussed in length at one point about how he thinks Georgia's defense lacks creativity.
That might seem like a fair assessment to some, but Kirby Smart took exception to his comments and called him out for it during his weekly press conference on Monday.
“I don’t know. You’d have to ask Jesse. I’m happy for Jesse. I’m glad he gets to make a living making those decisions.”

There are a few metrics that back up what Palmer said about Georgia's lack of defensive creativity. Most notably are the decreased sack numbers this season which may show that Georgia isn't being as successful in dialing up creative pressures.
But even if Georgia hasn't recorded as many sacks as they typically do, they have still have had some great moments this season. The highlight of their season so far was when they held Alabama scoreless during the second half two weeks ago. Even though Georgia still lost the game, one would have to assume that they had to be pretty creative to hold a team as good as Alabama to zero points in one half.
Regardless of what Palmer or anyone else thinks about Georgia's defense, they are going to have to get better. If Georgia is going to successfully defend their SEC crown this season they are going to have to improve in every aspect of the game. And this includes on the defensive side of the ball where it wouldn't hurt to be a little more creative at times.
