Kirby Smart won’t say it, but he sounds very concerned about Georgia’s wide receiver room.

Georgia's wide receiver room faces a big problem this year. This group bounced back and had a huge year in 2025, but nearly all of their top receivers from a year ago have left for the NFL. That means Georgia will have a lot of new faces leading their wide receiver room, and that could be a massive problem.

Kirby Smart even knows how big of a problem this could be, as he explained duing his press conference on Tuesday.

"Yeah, it's young," Smart said via 247sports.com. "We basically got one kid in from the portal, and he's bringing a little more experience. Where years past, there might have been more guys coming in from the portal, or if you still count London that way, I think he's now been here two years within our program. So some good competition out there. A lot of those guys haven't proven they can do it. They're gonna get an opportunity to do that in the spring."

Georgia's biggest concern isn't much of a worry for Kirby Smart

The important thing to mention is that it's not always a bad thing to have new faces on a team. Sure it is definitely a cause for concern, but there is always a chance these players turn out to be very good.

Just look at 2021 when Georgia won their first national title under Smart. That team had a lot of new faces in their receiver room as well. In fact, their top four pass catchers that year were all unknown or unproven players at the start of the season.

A lot of the wide receiver's development this year depends on Gunner Stockton. Smart made sure to challenge him at the start of spring ball and let him know how important his job is, but it is going to take a lot more than Stockton getting better.

Stockton can't do it on his own, but it sounds like Smart has all the confidence in the world in his inexperienced group of receivers.
