Kirby Smart will do anything he can to help Georgia win. And if that means he needs to tell a little white lie to the officials to help out his team, then that is what he is going to do.

Coaches lie to officials all the time, but usually they don't get caught red-handed in the act. Unfortunately the cameras caught Smart stretching the truth about taking a timeout, but he was able to get away with it which saved Georgia five yards and their second timeout.

Did Kirby Smart get away with lying to an official on key 3rd down play?

Georgia faced a key third down in Auburn territory as they were looking to add to their lead at the start of the fourth quarter. Gunner Stockton was struggling to get the offense set, and the play clock was quickly dwindling down. That is when an official blew the play dead claiming Smart had called a timeout before the play clock ran out.

This is when Smart worked his magic and began pleading with the officials that he was clapping his hands, not calling a timeout. But as the replay in the post above shows, Smart was clearly running towards the official screaming for a timeout.

Somehow Smart was able to win this argument as the officials ruled he did not call a timeout. So Smart saved his offense a five yard delay of game penalty and Georgia's second timeout.

Some people might be upset with Smart for doing this, but the blame should really be on the sideline official. At the end of the day they are responsible for making this decision, if they think Smart called a timeout then they should trust their gut and not let Smart play them like this.

Georgia unfortunately missed a field goal just a few plays later so this moment ended up not impacting the game, but this is just another hilarious moment from Smart that shows how he will do anything to win a football game.
