Georgia football is at the halfway point of their 2025 fall camp, and so far they have held one scrimmage. That scrimmage took place last weekend, but since it was a closed scrimmage there were only a few updates to share with Georgia fans.
That however changed on Tuesday before practice when Kirby Smart spoke with the media. He talked a lot about individual players and how they have been doing so far this fall, but he also gave an overall update on how the first scrimmage went as well.
"I thought they competed really hard. So I was pleased," Smart shared via 247sports.com. "Some silly procedural penalties both ways, but pleased with the effort of both groups. We're just not where we need to be yet."
Georgia's not where Kirby Smart wants them to be
Smart made it very clear in the above quote that his team is not where he wants them to be. In reality, this quote can be taken two ways because no team reaches their peak during fall camp, so the fact Georgia isn't the best version of themselves yet isn't anything to get too worked up about.
However, Smart most likely means that his team is behind schedule right now. He might believe that Georgia isn't as far along as he would have hoped at this point of fall camp, and if that's the case then it might be time to hit the panic button.
The above quote however does share some positives about the scrimmage though. Smart also shared some other good takeaways from last weekend's scrimmage that should make Georgia fans feel much better.
"So really competitive drives, several long drives. I was pleased with the effort for the first scrimmage," Smart continued.
At this point it is hard to know where Georgia is at as a team right now, but thankfully their first game against Marshall on Aug. 30 is only two and a half weeks away, so fans won't have to wait much longer to see how the Bulldogs look this season.
