This Saturday is one of Georgia's biggest games in the Kirby Smart era. Yes all of the National Championship and SEC Championship games were bigger than this weekend's game against Alabama, but looking at the regular season alone there is no other game that even compares.

Thankfully Smart has the right mindset entering this game because he recently shared with On3 that no success he has found in the past matters to him right now.

“I’m just one of those people who’s never going to look at what we’ve done. It’s what can we still do.”

Kirby Smart is focused on the future

After winning multiple SEC and National Championships, it would be easy for any head coach to put it neutral and coast throughout the rest of their career. They have already proven they can win at the highest level in the sport, so in theory there is nothing left for them to accomplish.

But that is thankfully not how Smart thinks. While Smart does enjoy the success he has found at Georgia over the last decade, he knows that getting back to the top of the college football world is what matters most. And based on this statement alone, Smart is more motivated now than ever before to win.

This is the perfect mindset for Smart to have entering Saturday's showdown against Alabama because they are the one team he has been unable to overcome. Sure he did beat the Crimson Tide to win his first National Championship, but that is his only victory over Alabama in his career. Since that win, Smart and Georgia have lost to the Crimson Tide in the 2023 SEC Championship game and during the regular season last year.

So Smart and UGA want nothing more than to show that they can beat Alabama this weekend at home in front of a packed Sanford Stadium. And Smart will not let the success he has found so far in his career get in the way of what is important going forward.
