Georgia football is just one day removed from their somewhat disappointing 28-6 win over Austin Peay. The Bulldogs were favored by 48 points entering this contest, so the fact they came up that short from covering the spread was frustrating to see.
One of the biggest reasons why Georgia struggled against the Governors is because of the poor play from UGA’s offense. And Gunner Stockton was one of the reasons why.
Stockton was efficient with the football as he completed 26 of 34 passes for 227 yards. Stockton unfortunately did not throw a touchdown pass though, and he wasn’t effective on the ground either, so his performance left a lot to be desired.
Kirby Smart agreed that Stockton needs to be much better as well, and his message to him during his press conference was very simple.
“Well, I actually need to see what he does in practice in the game,” Smart shared via 247Sports.com.
Kirby Smart needs Stockton to play like he does in practice
The biggest problem Georgia fans had with Stockton’s game was his unwillingness to throw the deep ball. There were countless examples where a wide receiver was streaking down the field, but Stockton failed to recognize them and throw the ball.
According to Smart though, Stockton doesn’t have issues throwing and completing deep balls in practice. This is frustrating to hear because Georgia needs Stockton to not play afraid and be willing to take chances throughout the game.
This is something Stockton is going to have to do on Saturday against Tennessee, because making the simple play won’t always work out against a team as good as them. But if he is willing to take those chances like he does in practice, Georgia should expect to leave Knoxville with a win next week.
