Georgia football entered their matchup against Alabama hoping to keep their undefeated record in tact. But after a disappointing first half, the Bulldogs comeback attempt came up short as the Crimson Tide brought home the 24-21 victory.
There are a lot of lessons Georgia needs to learn from this game. They need to learn how to start games faster as slow starts appears to be an issue for UGA again this season. Georgia also needs some work in situational awareness as one play call in particular was shockingly bad.
But Kirby Smart shared the one lesson he learned from this game, and his takeaway won’t surprise any Georgia fan.
"Lesson I take is we've got a good football team that's got to get better," Smart shared via 247sports.com. "I love the team in that locker room. I've repeatedly said, they enjoy practice, they work their butt off. They're not perfect."
Kirby Smart says Georgia just needs to play a lot better
Georgia clearly has a lot they need to work on coming out off this loss to Alabama. There were a lot of key moments that could have flipped the game in Georgia’s favor had it gone UGA’s way, but Smart knows that overall there isn’t one thing that Georgia needs to do better. He thinks this way because they need to get better at everything going forward.
This might be the most stereotypical statement Smart could have made, but it’s the correct mindset at this point. There is still a lot of season left to play and all of Georgia’s goals are still in front of them, but if they’re going to make a run at a championship this year they have to improve in every facet of their game.
But at the end of the day Smart knows that he has a very good team this year. Even if they lost to Alabama, they showed just how great they can be, so their expectations shouldn’t be adjusted just because they lost one game.
Georgia’s next opportunity this year is against Kentucky this Saturday who they will face at Noon EST.
